What?? Dubya should be thanked for the music??? I thought it was his predecessor that played the saxophone on Arsenio?? Clinton was our MTV president. Why thank Dubya??
Eric Clark, from the Cedar Rapids Gazette writes:
"Regardless of how you feel about Bush, I'm here to give him a gold star for at least one of his domestic accomplishments. Ever since Bush moved into the White House, rock'n'roll has been spectacular."
It's been a long week, I was searching the newspaper for something to do on this Friday night. I turned to the entertainment section of the newspaper. I was quite surprised to find the headline "Is Bush to thank for hot rock streak?" Well, you know I just
had to read on....
"Shortly after Bush's inauguration in 2001, The Strokes and The White Stripes broke through to the masses, storming the nation with guitar-driven garage rock..."
snip
"Was the parallel between Bush and garage rock a coincidence? Or was it a rapid reaction to a suddenly divided country unhappy that words like `hanging chad' ever had to be introduced into our lexicon?"
Clark goes on to honor Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Green Day and Bad Religion, among others.
Well, I think Clark might be on to something. He may be right when he says "Mad musicians make great music." But, by far, my favorite part of the article...
"I'm surprised Bush mastermind Karl Rove never capitalized on George W. Bush's magical command of our country's rock scene. I can just picture Rove toting `Bad Bush = Good Music' placards to rock clubs across the country in an effort to woo hipsters to the Republicans' side."
C'mon, a Friday night wouldn't be complete around here without a mention of Karl Rove would it??
Now, my new friend Eric Clark, left out a few. But I suppose the MSM must party to the mainstream music listeners as well. He didn't forget Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam or Neil Young (has anyone seen those commercials? LOL). But how could he forget Steve Earle? What about Dan Bern? (to name a couple) So, Kossacks what do you think?
After you take the poll, let us know who you think Eric Clark forgot...and lyrics are welcome!
